Water Heating

Everybody uses hot water supply differently, so it’s important to understand the different types of water heaters and features best suited for your needs. Let Dolan’s help you choose from a variety of eco-friendly standard hot water tanks or tankless water heaters.

Storage Tank or Tankless?

If it’s time to get a new water heater, you may be wondering about tankless vs traditional water heaters and which one to get. They both have their advantages and disadvantages – it’s all about what’s right for you.

Reservoir Tank Water Heaters

These are your classic style of hot water tanks. The main advantage of a traditional water tank is the lower purchase cost. As most homes are already set up for a tank, there’s also no need to change the gas line location or gauge, which is frequently the case with a tankless model. Hot water tanks come in electric, natural gas and propane.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters only heat water upon demand, thereby allowing a virtually endless supply of hot water. They are also energy efficient and time efficient. Also, eliminating your reservoir-style hot water heater can save you money on your water heating bill. Another advantage is Tankless water heaters mount on your wall and have a much smaller footprint in your utility area or basement.

Installation can be more difficult for a tankless water heater, as you may need to upgrade your home’s electrical system to support an electric tankless unit, or you may need to run a dedicated gas line to your gas-powered unit. Depending on the type of unit, you may also need to install other equipment like new exhaust vents or new pipes. There will also be a plumbing retrofit as well.
